The
Caprice
is a Dutch-built barge of infinite
charm, combining comfort and elegance in equal measure. The main deck
includes a spacious sundeck, a saloon with bar area and dining room,
while the lower deck includes 11 comfortable cabins with en-suite
bathroom.
The
Caprice launches a new itinerary for 2003 through Burgundy from
the famous wine country to the histoic Gallo-Roman area. She
follow the lovely Canal Du Centre in charming pastoral landscapes and
the world-famous Burgundy vineyards. Visits include a private
wine tasting at an 800 year old Chateau and a visit to a famous
chocolate maker.

The meeting place is at 2:30 p.m. The Hotel Regina Paris. This

Coach
transfer to TGV and fast train to Le Creusot followed by another coach
transfer to the boat moored in Chagny. Welcoming cocktail aboard
the Caprice followed by a cruise ton the Canal du Centre to the wine
growing village of Santenay. Dinner on board.

| Sunday
~ Excursion to
Beaune, wine capital of Burgundy. Guided visit of the 15 C
Charity Hospice and masterpiece of late medieval architecture, with
free time tostroll around town. Cruise to saint-Leger-Sur-Dheune,
passing through many locks which provides a good opportunity to walk
or cycle along the tow path.. Dinner on board. |
| Monday
~ Visit to
Margaret of Burgundy's 12 C Chateau at nearby Couches, traveling past
many signs of the regions medieval legacy. Tasting of wines made
by the Chateau owners son, Emmanuel Cayot. Cruise to Monchanin, the
highest point on the Canal du Centre.

~ Cruise
through spectacular scenery to Montceau-Les-Mines. Drive to Cluny for
a guided tour of the remains of the famous Benedictine Abbey founded
in 910 a.d. by Willian the Pious. Dinner on
board. |
| Wednesday
~ Morning
cruise through rural scenery to the village of Genelard.
Excursion to the city of Autun, founded by Augustus where the remains
of a Roman theater and two decorative city gates can still be seen.
Visit the cathedral of Saint Lazare and the medieval district with its
winding cobbled streets. Dinner on
board. |
| Thursday
~ Drive to the town of La Clayette to visit the premises of
master chocolate maker Bernard Dufoux with possible visit to the
automobile museum in the 14C castle. Cruise to Paray-Le-Monial
where the 12 C basilica was built as a smaller reproduction of the
abbey chruch of Cluny. Time to stroll around the town center. Farewell gala
dinner on board. |

~ After
breakfast transfer to Paris by TGV to Paris Gare de Lyon,
arriving at 2 p.m. |
The route is run in reverse on
alternate weeks. Excursions/mooring places and the route may be modified without
prior notification due to unforeseen circumstances.
