This year, the
Mirabelle moves to the region of Bordeaux, home of the finest wines in
the world. This cruise is not only a must for wine connoisseurs
(fabulous grands crus) and for gourmets (foie gras, etc.), it is also a
marvelous opportunity to explore a wealth of monuments and sites
spanning the years from pre-historic times to the present day.
The Mirabelle is an elegant Dutch-built
boat converted into a superbly appointed hotel-barge accommodating 24
guests in comfort. The main deck has a large sundeck wreathed in
flowers, a lounge with a bar area and a dining room decorated with warm
wood-paneling and panoramic windows. The lower deck has 12 twin-bedded
cabins, each with its own bathroom. |

Saturday
~ Meeting point: 10.30am at the: HOTEL LE MERIDIEN ETOILE ****
PARIS
This well known 4-star hotel is well
located near the Etoile and the Champs Elysées . Le Méridien has 1025
rooms, 2 restaurants and a bar. It is located at 81 Bld Gouvion Saint-Cyr

Transfer by TGV train to
Bordeaux. Coach transfer to the boat moored in Libourne. Welcome
cocktails on board. Time off to stroll through the town before dinner. |
| Sunday
~ Excursion to the picturesque town of Saint-Emilion
(UNESCO World Heritage) where the wine is aged in underground cellars
carved out of the limestone. Visit the old town and one of the châteaux.
Cruise on the beautiful
Dordogne river to the Gironde estuary and to Blaye, also well known for
its wine. Time to visit the remarkable 17C fortress designed
by Louis XIV’s military architect, Vauban. |
| Monday
~ We cross the estuary to another renowned
wine area, the Médoc, and moor at Pauillac where we visit one of the
most famous wine cellars in the world.
Cruise along the river Garonne
to Bordeaux. |
| Tuesday
~Walking tour of the beautiful city of
Bordeaux: the old town with its elegant 18C houses lining the river, the
18C Grand Théatre, one of the finest in France, and the old mansion of
the Chartrons district. Free time for shopping.
Cruise up the Garonne to
Cadillac or Castets-en-Dorthe depending on the tide. |
| Wednesday
~ Excursion to Château de Roquetaillade, a
14C castle entirely and beautifully restored by Viollet le Duc. Our
drive will take us through the famous Sauternes wine region.
Cruise to Meilhan, a village
with a spectacular view across the Garonne valley. |
| Thursday
~ Cruise with a good section for cycling to Le
Mas d’Agenais. Visit to the village church to admire a beautiful
painting by Rembrandt. Cruise to the lovely fortified village of Damazan.
Visit the charming village of
Nérac on the river Baize where the château is said to have been the
setting for Shakespeare’s Love’s Labours Lost. Farewell gala dinner
on board. |
| Friday
~ Coach transfer (2 hours) to Bordeaux
railroad station around midday for return by TGV to Paris Montparnasse
station, arriving around 2.30pm.
Note: The route is run in reverse on
alternate weeks. Excursions/mooring places and the route can be modified
without prior notice due to unforeseen circumstances. |
This cruise
includes Paris Transfers, gourmet meals, wine with lunch and dinner, open bar,
all excursions with guide, and bicycles.
